LOST 6x11

Just got back from watching Lost at Cinema Salem. I feel bad that I have yet to publicly address the fact that there is a theater in Salem, MA that shows Lost on the big screen every week. For free! How awesome is that?

If you aren't already checking it out you should show up next week. Get there early because it tends to draw a near capacity crowd.

And how did this near capacity crowd react to tonight's Desmond-centric episode, "Happily Ever After?" They seemed to love every single moment of it, and I did too.

Almost...

The scenes with Desmond and Charlie in the bar, and Des and Chucko in the hospital, while good, went on a little too long for my liking. That's probably because at this point in the season, with only 7 (seven!) hours left after tonight, I'm not sure that they have a minute to spare.

But, I would say that atleast 35 of the 42 minutes of tonight's episode were rock solid. I mean, friggin' Faraday showing up and offering the closest thing to an 'explanation' of the LA X universe that we've gotten thus far? Awesome. Desmond surviving an "electromagnetic incident" completely unscathed? Also awesome. Desmond's scowl when Widmore tells him that he's back on the Island? Double awesome. The idea that love transcends dimensions...I don't care how much of a cynic you are, when Desmond and Penny reunited at the stadium it gave me goosebumps, and if it didn't warm the cockles of your heart at least a little bit, then you have no business watching this show.

How does Eloise Hawking know so much in this reality? How much does she really know? Is Desmond now going to beat everyone on 815 to within an inch of their lives so that they too can each have an epiphany?

I don't know!

Creepy, apathetic, infected Sayid is so badass.

Next week's episode is titled "Everybody Loves Hugo," and in honor of Hurley I'll be having fried chicken with the usual crew before we head down to the theater.

I can't believe that in less than two months this will all be over for good. I need a new show to obsess over.

Preferably one that doesn't suck.

Suggestions?

5 / 5 on the Awesome Meter. Obviously. Desmond rocks.

  2. It was Fisher Stephens from Short Circuit. His name's Minkowski, he was one of the scientists on the Katana, the boat Widmore sent to the island. He died in the episode "The Constant" because his brain couldn't handle being in close proximity to the island.

  3. Best 1 hr episode, hands down, with only a few more chances to beat it. Think about Bad Twin -- (the book the character who got sucked into the engine in the pilot wrote) and that this new universe gives people the chance to do things differently. Eloise in the universe prime was a lot nicer until she shot her son in the back and then the island sank. it is clear that the bomb worked and also didn't work; so...in one reality she shot him and it sank, in the other she shot him and it didn't (because it still had to be there in the future for them to crash on 815...and return to in 2007.) in the universe she shot her son in before he was born, where the island didn't sink, she had to have faith that his intelligence and studies could lead them to fulfill Jacob's plan-mousetrap-tapestry. so she HAD to keep him on his path of quantum theory and temporal analyses, and believe that in doing this she was saving him. She hated Charles for doing his part ensuring she would shoot him in the back in '77, and you better believe it drove them apart... but in the other universe, when they were leaving the island during the incident and it SANK...they not only had faraday A's journal, but knew he was free to have a different life. they did not break up. [who's penny's mom then, and is penny older than faraday??] then widmore bought the black rock ship's log during "the constant" which made it off the island...or just bought dharma as i imagine losing the island destroyed the hanso foundation entirely in that universe...and they learned a little more about what was going on. Eloise's shrewdness without being tempered by faith (in universe B) shows the first real execution of the bad twin idea we have seen besides flocke(not actual twin though.) I don't feel Desmond's alt-self is really that much of an inversion, but I think it's supposed to apply to him before "waking up" as well.

Desmond became the key through a specific process. The people who were there for the atomic bomb detonation (the detanator of an h-bomb is an a-bomb and that was what they took out (about the size of a zube tube), were also exposed and might be able to travel the same way....I really love the balance between what an episode answers through details and the pacing of the action. they hit a great stride and this episode is just about the best example from a short episode.

V is getting good, and Caprica ain't too shabby.....

  4. fried chicken!!!!!! hell yes. also my heart hath no cockles, but even i was romantically swept away when penny met desmond.
    however-

why after having a creep mention your name out of the blue, introducing himself to you in an isolated and completely empty stadium, as you desperately try to wipe the sweat from out the corners of your eyes, and then watching him pass out in front of you do you not ask how he knows your name? after he comes too she says, "ok well, nice to meet you 'mr stranger who faints at my very touch yet knows my name'. im off." that to me kind of sums up this season...just a bit off. still tho, i love it.
